The first lens that I purchased with my own money was a macro lens. I’d saved up from a little bit of photography client work here and there.
My first macro lens for food photography was the 60mm. I had at the time a cropped sensor camera, but my husband (then boyfriend!) had a full-frame that I could also use.
What I remember loving instantly about this lens was the bokeh and the vignetting. I loved how it picked up the light. I could tell this was different from other lenses and it was one of the first things that really allowed me to see the power of different lighting.
From there, I saved to purchase the 105mm Macro from Nikon. The 90-105mm focal length is a great macro lens for food. Here are some of the beautiful macro detail shots I’ve captured of macro food photography over the years.
